RPA – Buffer Zones

image_1473853770822-2As part of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act a provision was created that requires 100′ vegetated buffer zones from the edge of the water, wetlands or streams.  This vegetated buffer is part of the Resource Protection Area  (RPA) and is governed by specific guidelines and regulations as to activities performed in the RPA.   These regulations effect all properties that border Queens Lake and Princess Pond as well as streams that flow into these water bodies and also Queens Creek.

Buffer violations can result in homeowners being subject to detailed buffer restoration plans and fines ranging from several hundred to as high as $10,000.00 for both the property owner and contractor.   You can contact the York County Environmental division at 757-890-3750 for RPA guidance and permit questions.
